ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER
Veggies to Table seeks an experienced and passionate Assistant Farm Manager to join our team and collaborate with our Farm Manager, Volunteer Manager, Crew, and many volunteers of all ages. This is a full-time year-round position.
Our Ideal Candidate will Have:
3+ seasons of organic farming experience
At least one year of no-till farming
Knowledge of farming in New England ideally in Zones 5b-6a
Minimum 1+ season managing and mentoring a crew, interns, and volunteers
A kind, firm and patient way of teaching skills, techniques, and systems and provide ongoing training with the goal of empowering team members and volunteers
Deep knowledge of vegetable, some fruit, and cut flower production from seed to table
Experience in a propagation greenhouse, including seeding, potting up, general greenhouse maintenance skills, etc.
Experience with farm equipment including Jang seeder, BCS, broadfork, etc.
Experience with running and troubleshooting both drip and overhead irrigation
A strong foundation & understanding of crop planning, soil health and fertility, organic pest control, succession planting, etc.
Experience and desire to maintain detailed records.
Experience ordering farm supplies, specifically following nonprofit buying guidelines (tax exemption, reporting spending)
Strong detail-oriented organizational skills
A desire to keep a clean and tidy farm
A willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, under potentially strenuous conditions — heat, rain, sun, wind, and cold—preparedness and a positive attitude are essential for success
Timely email and/or phone communication
Knowledge of Google Drive, Word, and Excel
Knowledge of Tend or desire to learn
Excellent communication skills
A desire to give and receive feedback regularly
A love of building community and relationships with folks of all ages
Experience working in a nonprofit setting is a plus!
Preference given to candidates with the above experience
In collaboration with Farm Manager you will:
Manage the day to day (moment to moment) operation of the farm and be plugged in to the needs of both the crops and crew
Work on our crop plan
Work to build soil health using soil tests, cover crops and organic amendments
Provide advice on organic, no-till, and no-spray farming methods
Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for diversified vegetable, flower, and herb cultivation
Operate a BCS with various attachments
Coordinate with various food pantries and organizations, etc. on distribution
Keep accurate and up to date records, planting logs, and farm data
Teach the farm team, volunteers, and interns proper planting tactics, efficient harvesting methods, soil health, fertility, and organic pest control
Manage and work alongside crew, providing feedback and helping to develop others’ farming skills, review performance/efficiency, and create a positive team dynamic
Help and embrace managing our many local volunteers, school and corporate groups, Wwoofers and Workaway volunteers on the farm

This position is full time and year-round
Salary commensurate with experience between $44,000-$48,000 a year
This position will be supported by a Farm Manager, a volunteer manager, and a Farmer/Flower Farmer, along with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and administrative team. Additionally, we have many local volunteers, WWOOFers, and interns working on the farm

Winter work may include, but not be limited to SOP writing and maintaining, crop planning, ordering, hiring, developing educational activities on the farm, and collaborating with our local food security partners, developing and leading workshops, speaking opportunities, writing or collaborating on grants
As an employee of a non-profit farm and a lead member of our grow-to-donate program our Assistant Farm Manager may be asked to assist, as needed, in other activities including farm tours, educational programming and support, and seasonal farm events
While this is primarily a farming position, our farm is open to the community and our Assistant Farm Manager will be interacting with community members of all ages on a consistent basis
