Veggies to Table Virtual Supper Club Series
Join us for our brand-new online Supper Club speaker series which will focus on education, community building, and great food, while also raising essential funds to support our grow-to-donate farm.
Every participant will be making a difference in the lives of those living in the crisis of hunger in Maine —167,000 Mainers daily, including one out of every six children.
We are delighted to welcome our first two speakers:
February 17 - Petra Page-Mann of Fruition Seeds (full details below)
March 16 - Kirsten Lie-Nielsen of Hostile Valley Living (full details below)
Each Virtual Supper Club event will feature
An inspirational guest speaker discussing topics such as gardening, homesteading, and sustainable living.
A themed meal suggested by us, that each of us will prepare at home to eat together during the online presentation.
Multiple prizes awarded for the use of local food, recipe and photo submissions, best theme use, and a random drawing of all ticket holders.
An interactive question and answer period at the end of the discussion.

February 17th: Petra Page-Mann of Fruition Seeds
6:00 - 7:30pm on ZooM
Petra Page-Mann is the vibrant personality behind Fruition’s popular Instagram page and website. Fruition grows organic produce and flowers and sells seeds specifically adapted for the Northeastern gardener. Petra teaches classes and webinars on all there is to know about gardening and farming in an unpredictable climate, and joyfully shares her abundant knowledge on her website.
Petra’s presentation, “Growing Our Gardens, Growing Ourselves”, will ask us to reflect not merely on the HOW of gardening but on the WHY— a topic that is near-and-dear to Veggies to Table. A garden can be so much more than just a means to put food on the table; it can be filled with intention, purpose, and meaning. Inspired by the writing of Robin Wall Kimmerer (Braiding Sweetgrass), this talk is sure to captivate and inspire.
For our February meal theme, “Winter Comfort Food”, reflect on ideas of comfort, home, and winter nourishment. What meal do you crave in the deep of winter to warm your body and soul?
Prizes will be awarded for the most use of local food in the meal, creative recipe choice and photo submissions, best use of theme, as well as a random drawing of all ticket holders.
The prizes for this event are: a $50 Reny’s gift card, a Fruition Seeds Garden Planning Calendar, a Veggies to Table Maine-made market apron, an Oxbow Beer tote, and a copy of Fruition Seeds Guide to Seed Starting With Ease.
March 16th: Kirsten Lie-Nielsen of Hostile Valley Living
6:00 - 7:30pm on Zoom
Kirsten Lie-Nielsen is an author and educator who has revitalized a 200 year-old Maine homestead and the woman behind Hostile Valley Living Instagram and website. She has used principles of permaculture to reclaim an overgrown and abandoned 93-acre farm, and and to cultivate gardens, orchards and animals. She has written two books, So You Want to Be a Modern Homesteader, and The Modern Homesteader’s Guide to Keeping Geese. She offers classes and consultations on topics including livestock, gardening and lifestyle, and cooking.
Kirsten will discuss moving to Maine and becoming a modern homesteader, how homesteading can be accessible to all, permaculture, and her personal journey raising animals and food, and living off the land. As we get ready for the growing season, she will chat about garden planning for year-round abundance, preserving the harvest, and crop storage.
For the March meal theme, “From the Pantry, Freezer and Root Cellar”, dig into the stash of food that you put by from last year’s garden or utilize foods that you have on hand in the cupboard, freezer, or root cellar. As always, complement with fresh local produce from the market!
Prizes will be awarded for the most use of local food in the meal, creative recipe choice and photo submissions, best use of theme, as well as a random drawing of all ticket holders.
The prizes for this event are: a $50 Reny’s gift card, two copies of Kirsten’s Book So You Want to be a Modern Homesteader, a one hour Zoom Consultation with Kirsten, and some of her dehydrated sourdough starter with detailed instructions!
